A young Argentine was shot dead at dawn on Sunday after a confusing episode in the city of Francisco Beltrão, a Brazilian town 85 kilometers from Bernardo de Irigoyen.
The victim was not identified, since he did not have documentation and was apparently homeless. According to testimonies, he was of Argentine nationality and was 24 years old, so it is being investigated whether he is from Misiones.
The event, according to the media from the neighboring country, occurred around 4 in the morning in a tobacco shop located in the Vila Nova neighborhood and was recorded when, according to the Brazilian Military Police, uniformed men circulating in the area were approached by people who denounced gunshots and the presence of a man lying down.
Faced with this scenario, they requested the medical emergency service that upon arrival at the site, the health personnel confirmed the death of the young man. For their part, the investigators were informed that moments before the incident, the victim and other people, presumably of Colombian nationality, were in a place where hookahs are offered for smoking.
In a confusing episode, the victim and another young man were removed from the place because, according to the testimony given by a security guard to the uniformed men, they planted marijuana, which would be prohibited.
In addition, always according to their testimony, they were causing disturbances and bothering women who were in the establishment. This situation was the reason why the two young men were removed. On leaving, they attacked a security guard by throwing stones at him.
As the uniformed officers learned, the stoned security guard tried to defend himself with a club and at that moment those involved ran to the corner near the place.
A man armed with a revolver arrived at the scene with which he fired several shots, walked towards the tobacco shop and handed the firearm to the security guard there.
In this context, those involved and the witnesses were transferred to the Nineteenth Police Subdivision of Francisco Beltrão and the victim’s body was taken to the Legal Medical Institute of that locality.
