(ANSA) – BUENOS AIRES, 04 OCTOBER – The vice president of Argentina, Victoria Villarruel, will meet Pope Francis on Monday 14 October in a private audience in the Paul VI Hall of the Holy See. The meeting with the Supreme Pontiff precedes a visit that the Argentine number two will make to Spain, where she will participate in a United Nations conference on the victims of terrorism and meet the president of the Iberian Senate Pedro Rollán Ojeda. Villarruel will depart for Madrid on Sunday 6 October from Ezeiza Airport in Buenos Aires. “He had to go to Spain, he requested an audience with the Pope and his request was accepted”, Senate sources explained to the newspaper La Nación. It is the first time since he assumed the vice presidency that Villarruel has met the Holy Father and it is also his first official trip outside Argentina. Villarruel, of Catholic faith, had already met Pope Francis in 2014. On that occasion he gave him some letters from the victims of the left-wing Argentine guerrillas of the Montoneros and the People’s Revolutionary Army (ERP) as well as a copy of his book ‘The other deaths’ (a revisionist text on the history of the 1970s in Argentina).
