Argentine Striker Lucas Zelerayán Joins Saudi Arabian Soccer League, Leaving MLS Club

The Saudi Arabian soccer league continues to add talent from all corners of the world and Major League Soccer (MLS) could not be the exception, and this Monday it was learned that the Argentine striker Lucas Zelerayán, has decided to leave the Columbus Crew after four seasons to sign for Al Fateh.

The announcement of the transfer was made by the Columbus Crew himself prior to the League Cup match in which they thrashed Club América from Mexico 1-4. Zelerayán was not summoned since the agreement for his departure had already been completed, but he was at the stadium and said goodbye to the fans.

This transfer is positive for both the Crew and the player, and offers us resources and additional opportunities as we approach the close of the second market window,” said Crew CEO Tim Bezbatchenko.

The 31-year-old Argentine attacker came to football in the United States in 2019 from Tigres UANL of Liga MX. He was champion and Most Valuable Player of the MLS Cup, he also scored a total of 38 goals and gave 30 assists in 97 games.

For some years now, the Saudi Arabian league has been recruiting the best soccer players from the different leagues in the world who are attracted by the large amounts of money that the teams are paying. The top figure they have signed is undoubtedly Cristiano Ronaldo who joined Al Nassr earlier this year.

But this summer the teams in said tournament have been more aggressive, managing to sign several of the greatest figures in European football, as was the case with Karim Benzema from Real Madrid, N’Golo Kanté from Chelsea and recently Fabinho from Liverpor all came to Al Ittihad.

But also there have been some failed attempts such as the case of Leo Messi or Kylian Mbappé, who were tempted by billionaire offers from Al Hilal but that they ended up rejecting, the first to reach Inter Miami of the MLS and the second to stay in Europe with Paris Saint-Germain.
