The Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the death of director Fernando Pino Solanas in the French capital, Paris, yesterday, at the age of 84, days after his hospitalization due to his infection with the Corona virus known as “Covid-19”.

Last month, Solanas announced that he and his wife Angela Correa had been infected with the Coronavirus, and were subjected to treatment in the bilateral hospital, but he had no luck and was not cured, and his memorial service took place this morning, in a state of great sadness that dominated his fans.

Solanas was not only an Argentine director, but he died as an ambassador to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization “UNESCO”, and held the position of a senator and deputy for the city of “Buenos Aires”, and was nominated for the presidency of Argentina in 2007, according to the “BBC News” website.

Fernando Solanas was born on February 16, 1936 in Buenos Aires, and directed the first film in 1962 with a short film entitled “Continue the Walk.” In 1967, he released the documentary “La Hora de los Hornos”, a triple film directed jointly with Octavio Gettino, which continued. More than four hours, which has become a symbol of politically committed cinema, condemnation and resistance to dictatorship.
