Argentine director Fernando Solanas dies at the age of 84 in France after contracting Corona

(MENAFN – Al-Anbaa) The Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the death of the Argentine director, scriptwriter and producer “Fernando Solanas” also known as “Pino Solanas”, at the age of 84 in the French capital / Paris /.

The Argentine Foreign Ministry said – according to Rayo (France International) – that the death of “Solanas” comes a few days after he was admitted to a hospital due to his infection with the emerging corona virus (Covid-19).

Solanas was born on February 16, 1936, and studied theater, music and law, and since 2013 he has become a member of the Argentine Senate.

It is noteworthy that he directed the first short film follow-up in Spanish, and in 1968, he produced and directed the first feature-length film, The Ovens Hour, a documentary on modern colonialism and violence in Latin America. This film won international awards and was translated into several languages. Solanas is the recipient of the “Grand Joree” award, the Critics Award at the Venice Film Festival, and the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival. And in 1999, he became the jury president of the 21st Moscow International Film Festival. In 2004, he was awarded an honorary Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The work of Solanas, who was subjected to an attempted kidnapping and death threats, continued, among them was the film “Sons of Fierro”, a poetic epic he completed in 1972. He emigrated to Paris and then returned to his country in 1985.
