The Mexican Federation’s national teams official, Rodrigo Aries, confirmed at a press conference held at the High Performance Center, near Mexico City, that Coca had been chosen from among five candidates.
Coca replaces his compatriot Gerardo “Tata” Martino, who left office after Mexico failed to advance beyond the group stage in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Born in the capital, Buenos Aires, and on the eve of his 51-year-old age, Coca became the fifth coach of Argentine nationality to supervise the Mexican national team.
Coca supervised the Tigres team, whose colors are defended by French striker Andre Pierre Gignac, so that the club announced Thursday the termination of its coach’s contract to allow him to assume his duties with the national team.
