Revolution in Argentine ! Next week will mark the start of a new era for the economy Argentina with bold measures to say the least in terms of deregulation. One of the most notable announcements concerns the possibility of carry out transactions able to take different forms of value, reports elciudadano.com, on December 22, 2023. The official announcement was made by Diana Mondino, the Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs. In a social media post, she said: «Argentina is resolutely positioned in the future of transactions. Deals can now be made not only in Bitcoin, but also in other forms of value, such as essential food items.”
Faced with questions about the legality of these transactions, the Argentine Chancellor wanted to reassure everyone. He recalled that the recent reform of the Civil and Commercial Code authorizes this development. Under the decree of current President Javier Milei, Article 766 was amended to ensure that the value specified in a contract is guaranteed, whether in traditional currency or inother forms of assets.

Bartering is not new in Argentina
Argentina has explored the concept of barter in the past. During the economic crisis of 2001, under the governance of Fernando de la Rúa, barter became a common method of exchange, particularly in the trans-Andean regions. This past experience has undoubtedly influenced Argentina’s current decision to embrace more diversity in its transactions. The integration of cryptocurrencies and other tangible assets under Section 766 also raises many questions.
