Argentine President Alberto Fernandez said, Wednesday, that Argentina and Mexico will participate in the production of millions of doses of a vaccine for the Corona virus that was developed by the University of Oxford in Britain with the giant pharmaceutical company, “AstraZinca” for Latin America.
Fernandez added that his country and Mexico will be responsible for producing the vaccine developed by the prestigious British University and the Swedish-British Medicines Group in Latin America once it obtains regulatory approval.
“This will allow timely and sufficient access to the potential vaccine for all countries of the region,” the Argentine president said at a press conference.
He said that AstraZinka has signed an agreement to produce between 150 and 250 million doses for all Latin American countries except Brazil, and that will be available in the first half of 2021.
Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said his government would announce the agreement on Thursday, adding that President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and his Argentine counterpart “support the agreement.”
Mexico has so far confirmed 56,600 deaths from Covid-19 disease, which is caused by the virus, and more than 500,000 people have been infected with it.
In contrast, Argentina recorded 268,574 injuries and more than 5,200 deaths.
Tests involving more than a thousand people have proven that the vaccine is safe and produces immunity, and Britain has already booked 100,000 doses of the vaccine, and it is currently undergoing the third phase of trials.
