Lionel Messi Finally won with the national team Argentina at the 2021 Copa America. Messi confided that the Argentine national team was often viewed negatively before becoming a champion.
Argentina champion America’s Cup 2021 after beating Brazil in the final in July. Competing at the Maracana Stadium, Argentina beat the hosts 1-0 thanks to Angel Di Maria’s single goal.
The trophy ended Argentina’s 28-year title drought. The last time Team Tango won was in 1993 at the Copa America.
On the way, Argentina is not close to the title. Messi with Argentina reached the 2007 2015 2016 Copa America final, as well as the 2014 World Cup final. However, those finals ended in defeat for The Albiceleste.
Lionel Messi tells about the perception of the Argentine national team which is often seen as a loser because it lost in the World Cup and Copa America finals. The failure in those tournaments is also acknowledged by Messi affecting him personally.
“Before we were treated as a failure and winning the World Cup was not easy,” Messi said in an interview with ESPN.
“The first 15 days after the tournament with Argentina were bittersweet, I didn’t want to do anything. And after (the Copa America winner in) Brazil, it was the first great holiday I had.”
“The media took part in treating us like failures. They said we didn’t love this shirt, they asked us not to play for the national team anymore, and we tried to give our best,” continued the Paris Saint-Germain player.
“We are the first to want to win and it’s not always about winning and losing,” said Messi.
