The president of the Argentine Players Association, Sergio Marchi, confirmed today, Tuesday, that the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Matthias Lamines, will suspend the matches scheduled today, due to the Corona virus.

A number of players and coaches have called for this move, and River Plate has refused to play its match scheduled for Saturday.

“Mattias Lamines will announce the matter. We are working on the drafting of the decision that I know and we will wait for the time the state will announce,” Marchi said in comments to the sports channel (TAC Sports) reported by the Spanish news agency.

It is reported that a match between Independiente and Villa Miter was played today in the first rounds of the Argentine Cup, and will be postponed to the first of next month.

River Plate decided unilaterally Saturday not to face Atlético Tucuman in the Argentine Super League competition.

It is noteworthy that Argentine President Alberto Fernandez said on Sunday that he would prefer the matches to continue without an audience, because it represents a means of entertainment for those who must stay at home to prevent the Coronavirus.
