Argentina has accumulated more than 566,000 cases of dengue so far in 2024, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday.
The Ministry of Health indicated in its National Epidemiological Bulletin that in the first 33 weeks of the year, 566,610 cases of dengue were reported throughout the country.
The South American country has focused on a prevention campaign in anticipation of the upcoming southern summer season that begins in December, when hot and rainy weather conditions favor the spread of the disease.
The federal government and the provinces have launched the Strategic Plan for the Prevention and Control of Dengue 2024-2025, which provides for coordinated actions adapted to the needs and conditions of each district.
The strategy emphasizes the importance of maintaining territorial prevention and control measures of the vector throughout the year, by strengthening actions against the mosquito “Aedes aegypti”, vector of the disease, according to information from the Ministry of Health,
The Plan to prevent a dengue outbreak in Argentina is structured around several components that include “coordination, planning, financing and monitoring; surveillance, integrated epidemiological research and adjustments to public health measures.”
It also provides for “virological surveillance of arboviruses; case management, organization of health services, prevention and control of infections; entomological surveillance and vector control; communication, community participation and management of the infodemic; prevention through vaccines; and operational and logistical support.”
