The Argentine Health authorities reported this Saturday that during the last 24 hours they registered 6,057 additional cases of Covid-19 and 159 deaths, while it was confirmed that the British strain of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus circulates in the South American country.

According to the official report of the Argentine Ministry of Health, with the new cases detected in the day, a total of 2,021,553 infections of the viral disease are already counted, which emerged at the end of 2019 in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
With the 159 deaths reported, Argentina adds a total of 50,188 deaths since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
There are currently 3,514 people hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (ICU).
ICU beds have an occupation of 54.7 percent nationwide and 59.9 percent in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires.
Since the beginning of the health emergency, the South American country has carried out 6,793,797 diagnostic tests for this disease, equivalent to 150,973 samples per million inhabitants.
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation reported, for its part, that in Argentina there is a community transmission of the British variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which is 70 percent more contagious than the original.
It was indicated that of a total of 156 samples taken in the city and in the province of Buenos Aires, in two, characteristic mutations of the UK variant, called VOC202012 / 01, were detected.
