Geopolitical News –
Argentine President Javier Milei chainsaws state agencies which, in his opinion, generate losses equal to one point of GDP, also because “the State has no reason to participate in the economy”. And so he announced strong cuts in the public sector, with the dismissal of workers hired in 2023, unless they are protected categories or indispensable figures. In reality, it is the non-renewal of fixed-term contracts, and between 5 and 7 thousand units are at risk of staying at home, but the government is studying a plan to also evaluate hirings prior to the current year: “there they are too many scandalous salaries to pay – said Milei during a television programme, considering that “with public money we have to, for example, pay for television and large salaries, when there are children dying of hunger”.
The aim of the Argentine president is to cause, as he himself explained, an economic shock to attract private investments. The welfare state is the one paying the price, with reforms envisaged in the framework of the Decree of Necessity and Urgency which include, among other things, the review of over a million social plans in search of undue perceptions.
Meanwhile, strikes continue in the country against the Decree of Necessity and Urgency, in view of the general one scheduled for January 24th.
