MADRID, 2 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, participated this Tuesday in the event for the 42nd anniversary of the start of the Falklands war with the United Kingdom, and stated that his government is “the first to take charge of the situation” and that has “a clear course” to recover the sovereignty of the archipelago.
“It is no coincidence that little or no progress has been made in the claim for our islands: we are, after decades, the first government that takes charge of this situation and that has a clear direction to be a truly prosperous and sovereign country,” the Argentine president has said, according to the newspaper ‘Clarín’.
In his speech, President Milei has attacked the politicians who “for decades” have been “beating their chests” trying to demonstrate their commitment to the demands for the islands, policies that have not produced “a single result for show after all these years.
“For sovereign claims to be heard and respected, it is a necessary condition first that the country and its leadership be respected, since no one would take seriously the claim of serial defaulters,” said Milei, insisting on his reproach to the previous governments of the country.
Likewise, the Argentine president has criticized that in recent years there has been a sector of the country’s political class that has focused its efforts on “dirtying the name” of the Argentine Armed Forces, meaning that Buenos Aires does not have the ” international respect.
«There is no sovereignty, there is no international respect for our interests if the political leadership does everything possible to tarnish the name of our Armed Forces. In the years when our sovereignty was consolidated, the Armed Forces were valued by the entire leadership and by society,” he added.
Along these lines, Milei has called on Argentine society and the political class to inaugurate “a new era of reconciliation with the Armed Forces” in which “sincere tribute to the heroes” of the country is paid and the Army “the recognition and support they deserve.”
ALBERTO FERNÁNDEZ REMEMBER CAMERO’S RECENT VISIT
For his part, former Argentine president Alberto Fernández has taken advantage of this date to remember that during his mandate (2019-2023) he governed to “preserve the interests” of the country and even managed to get the European Union to recognize the Malvinas Islands as a territory. in dispute.
Thus, Fernández has stressed the need for the claim for the sovereignty of the Malvinas to be “an undisputed State policy”, highlighting on this point the recent controversial visit of the United Kingdom Foreign Minister, David Cameron, to the archipelago.
«The recent visit of the British Chancellor to the Malvinas Islands constituted a direct offense to our sovereignty. Such an offense cannot be ignored. There are two ways to govern Argentina: preserving its interests or ignoring them,” added Fernández, slipping that Milei’s government disdains the cause of the Malvinas.
On this day of commemoration, we renew our unwavering commitment to the Malvinas cause, in honor of the sacrifice of those who bravely defended our land. “The Malvinas Islands are and will always be Argentine,” the former president of Argentina has concluded.
