The Argentine government has extended the lockdown restrictions to stop the spread of the Coronavirus in the capital, Buenos Aires, for another three weeks.

Argentine President Alberto Fernandez said Thursday in the country’s capital and the densely populated surrounding area, people should stay for long periods of time in their homes until June 28.

Only citizens will be allowed to shop in nearby food stores and pharmacies, and workers in vital jobs will be allowed to go to work.

Around 14.8 million people live in the Argentine capital region – that’s 37 percent of the country’s total population.

In the rest of the country, where the virus has not spread widely, people are allowed to move freely and go to work.

Compared to its neighbors, Argentina has curbed the virus. In all, 20 thousand and 197 people were infected with the virus, including 608 deaths.

However, the measures also caused great damage to the already weak economy.
