Argentine President Alberto Fernandez said, on Saturday, that a quarantine will be extended to the capital, Buenos Aires, but restrictions will be eased in the rest of the country, which aim to prevent the spread of the Corona virus.

General health isolation began in the second largest economy in South America on March 20, and it will be extended in the capital until May 24.

As of Friday, Argentina had recorded 5,611 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 293 deaths.

The Argentine government is seeking to obtain financial support of $ 4 billion from the Regional Development Bank “CAF” over 4 years, to support its efforts to combat the Corona virus.

The money will be used to encourage social policies and revitalize the economy, according to Bloomberg News.

Argentina is expected to receive $ 900 million of this amount during 2020.

Argentina cut its economic forecast for 2020 sharply, due to the emerging corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic.

According to a government analysis, the economy is expected to contract by 6.5% this year, as activity has faltered due to the country’s lockdown measures and weak global demand.

In March the government had expected the economy to contract between 1.0% and 1.5%.
