The Argentine government intends to donate two Russian-made Mi-17E transport helicopters to Ukraine.
According to Ukrinform, reports Pucará Defense.
“With the visit to Argentina of the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, for the assumption of the presidency of Javier Milei, the Argentine Air Force aims to complete the donation to the Ukrainian State of the two Russian Mi-171E helicopters that remain out of service. ”says the article.
It is noted that one of these helicopters has not been used for two years due to problems with the supply of parts from sanctioned Russia. “The United States proposed to Argentina that the devices be donated to support the Ukrainian war effort, but the outgoing Argentine government opposed it. Now, the donation is being negotiated, to be made in the coming days and, as the United States has proposed, the value of the helicopters could be computed against the first payments for the purchase of the F-16 Fighting Falcon,” Pucará Defensa points out.
The helicopters are equipped with supplementary fuel tanks and a loading crane, for very long-range operations in Antarctica. They have weather radar and emergency floats.
