MADRID, 27 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of Argentina has denounced this Tuesday that its Embassy in Caracas has suffered an interruption of the electricity supply after it hosted opposition political leaders in the hours before the closing of the registration of candidates for the Venezuelan presidential elections, which are scheduled for the 28th. of July.

«The Argentine Republic expresses its concern about the incident that occurred yesterday, which resulted in the interruption of the electricity supply at the official residence in Caracas, and warns the Government of Venezuela about any deliberate action that endangers the safety of Argentine diplomatic personnel and “Venezuelan citizens under protection,” reads a statement from the presidential office.

In this sense, he recalled “the obligation of the receiving State to safeguard the facilities of the diplomatic mission against intrusions or damage and to preserve its tranquility and dignity.” Thus, the president, Javier Milei, has urged his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, to “ensure the security and well-being of the Venezuelan people, as well as to call transparent, free, democratic and competitive elections, without proscriptions of any kind.”

On the other hand, Milei has highlighted that he has welcomed the opposition leaders at the Caracas Embassy under the protection of “the inviolability enshrined” in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, “of which both nations, Argentina and Venezuela, are signatories.” .

«Argentina, rooted in its historical vocation to promote and safeguard fundamental Human Rights, and exercising its effective commitment in this regard, expresses its concern at the deterioration of the institutional situation and the acts of harassment and persecution directed against political figures in Venezuela. “, has added.

Countries such as Colombia and Brazil, whose presidents maintain a good relationship with Maduro, have expressed this Tuesday their “concern” about how the electoral process is going, in which several arrests of opponents have been recorded, whom the authorities accuse of attempts to assassination, and for the obstacles placed on the unitary opposition candidate when registering as a candidate for the Presidency.

María Corina Machado, chosen as an opposition candidate in a primary, has not been able to run because she is disqualified for 15 years. After that, Machado chose to pass the baton to Corina Yoris, who was also unable to formally present her candidacy before the deadline expired. The electoral authority has confirmed the name of Eduardo González Urrutia as a candidate for the Democratic Unity Table, absorbed by the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), after an extension due to complaints of irregularities.

The one who did manage to present his candidacy on time was the governor of Zulia and leader of Un Nuevo Tiempo (UNT), Manuel Rosales, who at the time was a presidential candidate against Hugo Chávez. However, neither Machado nor other key opposition figures seem willing to support him.
