The Argentine Ministry of Health announced on Saturday the death of a resident of Buenos Aires as a result of infection with the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19), marking the first death in the country and in Latin America.

The ministry said that the 64-year-old man suffers from many chronic diseases, including diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic bronchitis and poor kidney function.

The ministry added that the patient returned from a trip to Europe on February 25, and symptoms of the disease began to appear on him on the 28th of the same month, and the statement did not specify the European country the patient visited.

However, the Argentine newspaper “La Nacion” reported that the man had traveled to France before returning to Argentina, adding that he had died on Saturday morning in the Cosme Argirish Hospital.

The country’s health authorities are making efforts to reach people who have been in close contact with the patient after returning from Europe.

And Argentina announced on Friday, Friday, the registration of eight cases in the country, to be the third country in Latin America to record the highest rates of infection after Brazil, which recorded 19 cases and Ecuador, which recorded 14 cases.

Paraguay’s health authorities announced the first case of HIV infection on Saturday, which belongs to a 32-year-old man who had recently returned from Ecuador, and was isolated at his home and “in good condition.”

Health authorities in Mexico City and Lima have announced new cases of the virus, with the number of cases in Mexico increasing to seven and Peru to six.
