Argenis: To be held accountable for the crime of Yuniol Ramírez

Argenis Contreras González, the main defendant in the murder of the lawyer and university professor Yuniol Ramírez, will continue to be questioned today at 11:00 in the morning by prosecutors from the Attorney General’s Office, after five hours under investigation yesterday.

Contreras González was repatriated from the United States and arrived at Las Américas airport at 11:30 in the morning, where he was awaited by the head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Administrative Corruption (Pepca), Wilson Camacho, who made the arrest official and notified him of the criminal charges against him.

The Public Ministry has the accused under arrest in the preventive prison of the Ciudad Nueva Palace of Justice.

Plutarco Jáquez, Contreras González’s lawyer, said that his client is not the main defendant, and that in due course he will ask for new names to be added to the file.

“Those people who have already been included in the file, the Public Ministry is going to weigh them, also that the people who have been excluded are reinstated in the file,” he indicated when he left the interrogation of his client at the Attorney General’s Office.

“When he leaves the country it is because there are many well-known people, generals, colonels, politicians, we are talking about heavyweights that can rip off anyone’s head,” said Jáquez, Contreras González’s lawyer.

The defendant had fled to the United States to evade the judicial process that is being followed for the kidnapping and murder of Ramírez Ferreras, as well as for the commission of alleged acts of corruption. He is claimed to be the material author of the death of the lawyer and university professor.

Interpol issued an arrest warrant against him, since October 2017 under official letter number 2017/254847. Contreras’s wife, Heydi Carolina Peña, were also involved in Ramírez’s murder; José Mercado Blanco (El Grande), Víctor Elisander Ravelo Campos (“El Herrero”) and Jorge Luis Abreu Fabián (“DJ and El Taxista”), accused of covering up the author and trying to destroy evidence in the case.

In relation to the case, the former director of the Metropolitan Office of Bus Services (OMSA), Manuel Rivas, and Colonel Faustino Díaz, who was the financial manager of that entity, were accused.

IN POINTS

Pending.

Last Monday, Camacho had declared that they had not forgotten the case that Contreras is accused of.

He explained that they worked “slowly, but without pause” in that case and in all those who have any relation to the issue of corruption.

When asked about the difficulty for which the United States has not yet extradited Contreras, the head of Pepca asked to respect the decisions of the other authorities.

The arrest in the US

Contreras was arrested in the United States on April 21, 2018, through an arrest warrant obtained against him by the Public Ministry of the Dominican Republic.
