EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO.- Argenis Contreras’ lawyer, this Thursday asked judges Gisselle Méndez, Tania Yunes and Jissel Naranjo, of the First Collegiate Court of the National District, to reject the Public Ministry’s accusation of murder of university professor Yuniol Ramírez, on October 11, 2017.
Plutarco Jáquez also asked the magistrates hearing the underlying trial to declare the acquittal of his client due to lack of evidence, who is the main defendant in this bloody incident.
Jáquez expressed that he considers that the accusation presented by the Public Ministry against his client presents inconsistencies. Jáquez questioned the strength of the evidence and indicated that in his opinion, there are gaps and contradictions in the chronology and facts presented.
The lawyer maintained that the accusing body has not been able to conclusively demonstrate Contreras’ responsibility in the murder of professor Yuniol Ramírez.
This new one is in the final stage. At this time the defenses present their conclusive arguments.
Also accused of taking the lives of Ramírez, Víctor Ravelo Campos, José Mercado Blanco and Lilian Suárez Jáquez.
It is recalled that on February 14 of this year, the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of the National District annulled the decision issued in September 2022 by the Second Collegiate Court of the National District and imposed two years in prison for corruption against Manuel Rivas, former director of the Office of Metropolitan Bus Services (OMSA).
Argenis Contreras was sentenced in September 2022 to 20 years in prison in Najayo prison for the death of Ramírez, who denounced corruption in the Metropolitan Bus Services Office OMSA. By then, Contreras was in charge of the institution’s Purchasing area.
It is expected that this trial will conclude today and the judges will leave to deliberate, setting a new date to issue the ruling on the conviction or discharge of those involved.
