Argenis Contreras, the main defendant in the death of the lawyer and professor Yuniol Ramírez, was taken to court for the hearing of the coercion measure for the crime that occurred in October 2017.
The hearing will be known by the interim judge of the Fourth Investigative Court, Kenya Romero, but it will be in the courtroom of the Ninth Penal Chamber located on the third floor of the Ciudad Nueva Palace of Justice.
The defendant was released from the preventive prison at 10:29 in the morning.
Prior to the hearing, Argenis Contreras’s lawyer said that they will not oppose the measure of coercion that the Public Ministry is requesting for preventive detention, because they understand that this is good for the accused.
“We are not going to oppose it because the prosecution is asking for preventive detention and we, for the sake of the accused, need it to be in a safe place, and what is best for it now is that it be in a safe place,” said the lawyer Plutarco Jáquez.
The judge must also order the lifting of the rebellion order issued against Argenis, since he left the country since the date of the murder in 2017 and was deported by the United States last Tuesday.
Contreras was guarded by a prison treatment surveillance agent corresponding to the New Model of Penitentiary Management.
Five agents are stationed on the outskirts of the court, while the measure of coercion is known behind closed doors, with the representation of the parties involved in the process such as the public prosecutor’s office and the defense of the accused.
