25 people who donated blood ten, 25, 50, 75, 100 and even 125 times between April 2023 and March 2024 were recently honored in the Eisenharz town hall. Mayor Roland Sauter expressed his great appreciation to the women and men and called them “silent lifesavers”.
Despite high-performance medicine, for the mayor of Argenbühl, “preparations made from donor blood” are still indispensable for many illnesses today. But the time they take for “selfless, voluntary work” is also a benefit for the donors. Donating blood always involves checking your own constitution.
First, a questionnaire must be filled out
From personal experience, Sauter discussed filling out the questionnaire, the scope of which “has felt and objectively become increasingly longer over the past few years”. Last but not least, a lot of personal and intimate information would be asked. But the mayor immediately had an explanation ready and said: “Safety fist! This approach is urgently needed, especially with regard to the donation recipients. And discretion is absolutely guaranteed.”
Every year the German Red Cross (DRK) offers donation appointments in the area. They have been in Argenbühl since 1968, including 25 years in Eglofs. “You can download both the questionnaire and a registration and deregistration form at home using an app,” said Wolfgang Dieing, district doctor of the DRK from Isny, a little later. But you can also “come spontaneously”. And he was able to point out another innovation: “With the change in the transfusion law and the amendment to the hemotherapy guideline, there is no longer an upper age limit.”
Dieing answered the question about the availability of blood donations as follows: “In the summer, blood supplies, for which there is no storage, are somewhat scarce. But we can provide sufficient care for tumor patients in particular.”
If in doubt, speak to a doctor about donating blood
Like Mayor Sauter before him, the doctor also appealed to the athletes present “who have never donated before and their relatives” to come and donate blood. If you have any doubts, you can speak to a doctor about it on the spot.
After another musical contribution from the “Heublechler” it was time to award the 25 women and men for their selfless commitment. Julia Gumboldt, Christian Kleiner, Bertram Landsbeck, Magnus Meinert, Marie Müller, Florian Schele, Eva-Maria Sigg-Buchner, Carola Stenzel, Stefan Weber, Sara-Lena Weber and Renate Weber-Ihler received the gold badge of honor for donating ten times.
Badges of honor were awarded
The badge of honor with a golden laurel wreath for 25 blood donations will now adorn the lapels of Nicole Bär, Doris Bröhm, Judith Müller, Matthias Peter and Anton Walser. Christa Kolb, Monika Schwarz and Hans-Peter Sohler can now look forward to a particularly beautifully decorated badge of honor for donating blood 50 times. This also applies to Joachim Krumpholz and Dieter Müller, who donated 75 blood donations. A special round of applause went to Georg Hengge, who had his blood drawn 100 times, and especially to Wilhelm Rudhart, Herbert Rudhart and Franz Josef Wösle, who donated blood a whopping 125 times.
