The adviser to the head of the OP emphasized that registration for military service does not mean that women will be called up for service.

Oleksiy Arestovich, speaker of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group and adviser to the head of the President’s Office, commented on the order of the Ministry of Defense on military registration for Ukrainian women. This was discussed in his interview to the Politeka edition, released on Thursday, December 23rd.

So, to the host’s question about who thought of obliging women to register for military service, Arestovich replied: “Well, gender equality, I’m sorry. Women have been striving for this all the way? So, they have finally achieved: the same requirements for men and women.”

At the same time, he clarified that women will be able to replace men in rear specialties.

“In the case of a full deployment of the army, the question arises: who should occupy 4,500 specialties? There, businessmen, accountants and other positions that are needed for document flow, for finance, etc. Well, the question is: should we call four thousand men there? These are two combat brigades in size. Well, maybe women should be called up to the rear specialties, so that they sit there, type them on a typewriter while the men are fighting at the front, “the speaker said.

Finally, Arestovich stressed that military registration does not mean that women will be called up for service.

Recall, December 22 in Ukraine the order came into force on the approval of the list of professions for women who are required to register for military service. The Armed Forces clarified that Ukrainian women liable for military service must do this by the end of 2022. Otherwise, they face a fine.
