– I think almost a good meter has come, says Dagbladet journalist Frida Haakstad.
The Christmas and New Year’s stay at home in Arendal has been extended as a result of the heavy snow that has hit southern and eastern Norway.
What was supposed to be a travel day to Oslo on New Year’s Day has instead been spent plowing.
– It’s absolutely crazy. Even my 94-year-old grandfather says he has never experienced anything like this here before.
Oslo chaos: – Not justifiable
Causing trouble
The plow trucks are struggling to remove the snow in several places in Eastern and Southern Norway. This also applies where Haakstad is located at Nedenes in Arendal.

She herself did not make it to the bus to Oslo, which, incidentally, also struggled with accessibility today. Large amounts of snow also cause difficulties for the trains. Both Arendalsbanen and Vestfoldbanen are closed.
Lane NOR announces a new update on Tuesday 2 January at 4.30am.
– The plow has been here a couple of times today, but it is piling up in the meantime. It’s almost like a movie. People shovel and make piles everywhere, which in turn creates challenges for others. People are stuck in cars, and there are warning triangles everywhere, says Haakstad.
This afternoon she was supposed to drive her grandfather home to Hisøy, but he had to come back to Nedenes with her: A 20-metre-long driveway with almost one meter of snow was too violent.

– Waiting for the next meter
Fred Arthur Asdal sits on Tromøya. Rain on New Year’s Eve meant that many in the New Year’s party at his home chose to take the car. When they crawled into bed at 02:00, there hadn’t been a whole lot of snow.
What they woke up to was something else entirely.
– In any case, 75 cm had come during those hours. It was almost impossible to even see that there were cars under the piles of snow, says Asdal.
He has spent a full nine hours of the first day of the year shoveling.

– The only place I don’t have pain now is my head, says Asdal.
Arendal is one of the municipalities in the south where crisis management was introduced. An orange warning for snow has been reported in Agder, and this was extended on Monday until Wednesday.
– We are waiting for the next meter, because here the stay is only reported after lunch on Thursday, says Asdal.
In Southern Norway, they are well aware that the snow comes in large quantities when it first arrives, he explains. Nevertheless, this winter is likely to be well remembered in the years to come.
– There is a lot of talk about an extreme winter in 1954, and I also remember that there was a lot of snow in 2006 or 2007. But this winter there has actually been snow on several occasions here, albeit in slightly smaller quantities.
