TIME.CO, Jakarta – PSSI disciplinary commission sentenced to life imprisonment the president of the organizing committee of Arema FC, Abdul Haris The Kanjuruhan tragedy Saturday 1 October 2022. The incident at Kanjuruhan stadium, Malang, after the Liga 1 match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya caused the death of 125 people.
PSSI Disciplinary Committee chairman Erwin Tobing said a lifetime ban on football activities was appropriate. He also revealed the forms of neglect of Arema FC Panpel which contributed to the cause of hundreds of victims in the incident of the Kanjuruhan tragedy.
One of the mistakes that was highlighted by PSSI Komdis was that the doors of the stadium were not opened during a riot. Furthermore, the Disciplinary Commission stated that the organizing committee did not conduct the search correctly so that dozens of bottles of liquor could enter the stadium.
“There are many weak points of the Panpel, such as the front door not open, the large door is also not open, the entrance is dark. Many bottles of liquor were also found, up to 42 bottles had not been drunk in the stadium. They should have been searched, “Erwin said.
In an analysis conducted by the PSSI Disciplinary Commission, Erwin assessed that the organizing committee was negligent in anticipating the potential chaos in a match titled Big Match. According to him, the organizing committee has done their homework too often in Arema FC home games, so they consider their work a normal routine.
Consequently, the Panpels’ vigilance in carrying out their duties is reduced. According to Erwin, the outbreak of unrest after the eleventh week of the Liga 1 2022-2023 match caused the organizing committee to panic and failed to anticipate the clashes. “I said that when the committee considers it a routine task, their vigilance is lost. I have seen it,” Erwin said.
“He (Abdul Harris) is routine, has long been the leader of the Panpels, so he’s not vigilant. He should always check that the big door can be opened if something happens. It can’t be opened,” he added.
Apart from Abdul Harris, PSSI Disciplinary Commission he also sentenced Arema FC security officer Suko Sutrisno to life in prison. “Even the security officer, Suko Sutrisno, cannot be active in the football environment all his life,” continued Erwin.
