We are still waiting for the final result 24 hours after the deadline. Iowa Democrats are still evaluating this chaos election. As of the hour, only 62 percent of the constituencies have been counted. That is too early for a final conclusion. And with all assessments, you always have to be aware: only one in 50 states voted.
Nevertheless, you can probably read a few trends. It seems that Pete Buttigieg and Bernie Sanders had a very good evening. As expected, Sanders did well with under 30s, and Buttigieg apparently scored well across all ages, in the country and in the cities.
Joe Biden, on the other hand, could end in great disappointment. The Biden people have always stressed that a win in Iowa is not at all necessary to get the nomination. And they are right there. Joe Biden relies on the great support of African-American voters, especially in the southern states – and he still leads the polls nationwide. But the numbers up to now in Iowa are massively below expectations. He currently only leads in six administrative districts, especially in the country. Iowa has a total of 99 such districts.
In addition to the three men, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar are also doing quite well. Warren in third place, and Klobuchar is surprisingly close to Biden in fifth.
After Iowa, there were often only three candidates with very good chances in the race. This is different this time because of the possible diver from Biden. Iowa did not separate the wheat from the chaff, as some would have expected. That makes the race one thing above all: exciting. The next Tuesday will continue in New Hampshire.
