(CRHoy.com) The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) joined the World Vaccination Week in the Americas and they are developing a campaign to start or complete the basic scheme of the vaccines that are placed in the country.

“Vaccines save lives and are essential to reduce the occurrence of vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles, rubella, mumps, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and pneumococcal disease, hence the importance that people complete all their vaccination schedules”, commented the doctor Leandra Abarca, from Epidemiological Surveillance of the CCSS.

That is why, as part of this eleventh week of awareness of the importance of immunization, the Fund is asking those who have not completed the basic scheme, approach health establishments to catch up.

Likewise, the official assured that the goal of the CCSS teams is to strengthen coverage rates for all vaccines and educate the population about the importance they have not only in individual care but as a public health strategy.

“Our country and the world have made efforts for many years to invest in this public health strategy, which is one of the most cost-effective in disease prevention, along with frequent hand washing with soap and water,” he added.

The authorities remind that not complying with the vaccination schedules “It puts the unvaccinated population and their contacts at risk, which is why everyone must be vaccinated according to the corresponding schedule.”
