The Government of Mexico City indicated this Friday that the increase in confirmed cases of COVID-19 it is mainly concentrated in the groups of people between 18 and 29 years of age.
Eduardo Clark, general director of Digital Government of the Digital Agency for Public Innovation in the capital, called on young people to reinforce prevention measures such as constant hand washing, healthy distance, the use of face masks, as well as taking tests to rule out being carriers of the virus.
“It is very important to continue to emphasize that the increase we see in confirmed cases continues to be, and is highly focused, in the 18 to 29 year-old age groups. I would like to emphasize that this is the group that is infecting and that it is worth reinforcing personal protection measures, “he said at a press conference.
In that sense, he argued that people between 30 and 39 years of age show an increase in infections to a lesser extent.
In the age groups that have experienced an increase in cases, there is no increasing trend of hospitalizations.
The groups of high mortality and hospitalizations for COVID-19 in people of 50 years going forward, they remain stable and at minimal incident levels.
In previous days, the authorities announced that there has been a “slight” increase in COVID-19 cases that is observed mainly in two groups: millennials and people between 40 and 49 years old.
“What there is is a slight increase in cases and particularly it is among people between 30 to 49 years old, that is the age group where the number of people who are positive for COVID is increasing,” said Claudia Sheinbaum, Head of Government From the capital.
Upward trend in hospitalizations
Given the rebound in infections in the capital, Clark stressed that there is an upward trend; however, he noted that it is important to differentiate between speed.
“Yes there is an upward trend because the number of hospitalized is growing, but in terms of magnitude it is a much less vertical trend,” he explained.
According to government data, in contrast to Friday June 25 there are 156 more people hospitalized, that is, this Friday there are 866.
