Are you a resident of Heredia and would you like to donate blood? This Sunday you can do it at the Mercedes Norte church

This Sunday, September 22, you will be able to donate blood at the facilities of the Mercedes Norte church in Heredia, especially at the priest’s house.

The activity will be held from 7:30 am to 2 pm The liquid will be used for patient care at the San Juan de Dios hospital, located in San José.

“Many patients want the donated blood to survive and be able to undergo the treatment. An example of these are oncohematological patients who need red blood cells, plasma, platelets and even cryoprecipitates,” said Ana Lucía Valerín Chaves, head of the Blood Bank.

He recalled that in that medical center, a transfusion of hemo components is done every 30 minutes.

In this way, Valerín pointed out that one donor can save three lives.

This is the sixth time that the hospital’s Blood Bank has held a campaign of this type, outside the hospital’s facilities.

If you cannot be present this Sunday, remember that you will be able to give this liquid during the week.

The hours are Monday to Thursday from 7 am to 4 pm, and from 7 am to 3 pm donors must enter through the right access of the medical center, which is next to the Ministry of Health.

Requirements

Please note that there are a series of requirements to be able to donate blood, which are as follows:

• Be between 18 and 65 years old.
• Enjoy good health.
• Weight greater than 52 kilos and height equal to or greater than 150 cm.
• Carry your ID card, residence card or valid official ID.
• No alcohol intake in the last 24 hours.
• Be well hydrated.
• Not having had any type of surgery or gastroscopy, tattoo or piercing in the last six months.
• If you are a woman, you must not be pregnant or breastfeeding.

Donors are advised to eat a light breakfast where fatty and dairy foods are avoided.

Also, you can consume a liter of water before it is given, to be well hydrated during the extraction.
