Photo = Getty Image Bank A creator who became famous on YouTube has developed an application (app) that provides advice on romantic relationships and dating using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This app suggests creative date ideas considering the number of times you have met and your current location. However, some point out that the function of predicting the possibility of hair loss or actual height based on the other person’s photo is expected to be controversial.
According to TechCrunch, an IT media outlet, on the 14th (local time), creator Hayley Welch (22), who recently became a hot topic with her YouTube videos, launched ‘Pookie Tools’, an AI app that provides advice on romantic relationships and dating.
This app targets Generation Z as its main user base. One of the representative functions is the ‘AI chatbot’, which provides conversation with others or advice on dating. There is also a function that recommends outfits for a date or presents a profile configuration that can appear attractive to the other person. It is known to have been produced using ChatGPT-based AI development tools.
What is different from the AI function provided by famous dating apps such as Tinder is that it recommends an appropriate dating course considering the user’s location and number of meetings. For example, depending on whether it is your first or tenth meeting, you might suggest a ‘casual coffee date’ or an ‘elegant dinner’. When going on a date, we recommend clothes appropriate for your age.
After analyzing your profile, we recommend additional photos that highlight your charm and personality.
There is also criticism that AI chatbot performance remains at a general level. TechCrunch said, “After testing Pookie Tools’ AI chatbot, the responses were generic and lacked the unique personality we expected,” and added, “It felt surprisingly similar to existing AI tools such as ChatGPT.”

In the case of the ‘baldness predictor’, AI is a function that analyzes photos to estimate the possibility of hair loss. The height detector estimates the actual height based on the surrounding environment, objects, and body proportions in the photo.
In fact, when a photo of a woman’s upper body was uploaded, AI came up with a result that was estimated to be 5.6 feet (about 170 cm). At the same time, a total of five clues were presented. The height was estimated by considering the hat the woman was wearing, the height of the microphone in front of her, the arm length and body ratio, the size of the chair she was sitting on, and objects visible in the background.
TechCrunch noted, “These tools could perpetuate the stigma that short, bald men are inferior.”
Welch said the feature was developed for light-hearted use. These functions are not able to accurately determine the possibility of hair loss and actual height.
Pocky Tools is available on a subscription basis. The subscription fee is $7 per week or $50 per year.
