Replace your car tires with winter tires. Is that needed? It depends on what kind of road user you are, says Jos van der Drift of the ANWB. “There isn’t just one moment for that.”
In the Netherlands, winter tires are not necessary for everyone. “If you have to travel a lot for your work, then it is an indispensable addition to your safety. Otherwise not.”
In a flat country without harsh winters, special tires are not important, says Van der Drift. “But there is always a chance of snow or slippery conditions.”
If you do replace them, he recommends using winter and summer time as a reminder. “As soon as winter time starts, those winter tires can be put around it, and vice versa.”
Nowadays there are also all-season tires. These are tires that are suitable all year round and in all weather conditions.
