Are we (really) going to see concerts on May 19?

Officially, concert halls can reopen on May 19, with strict health restrictions. But does that mean that we will be going to see artists perform again from that date? Not so sure.

“It is not because we are told that we can start on May 19 that we will be ready by that date”. This is what Thierry Langlois, director of Uni-T production, which deals with artist tours, told Europe 1, after the announcement of the gradual reopening of cultural venues. Because a lot of factors come into play: “You have to set up the productions, the tours, you have to have the time to promote, to sell the tickets … it’s always a little complicated!”, He adds.

Reserved artists

However, other turners are planning, against all odds. That of Louis Chedid, Alain Souchon or Kendji Girac assures us that they will perform concerts in June, despite the reduced gauge imposed, the seated audience and the uncertainty. The singer Suzane, she has a dozen concerts scheduled for June. Because these artists do not require a large production or have already reviewed their set so that it is compatible with a seated audience.

But that’s on paper. Because until June 9, the condition for a concert to be held is a gauge to be respected of 35% per venue. This represents, for example, 374 seats instead of 1,000 at La Cigale, in Paris. The singer Rover is due to play there in three weeks and he wonders if it is not better to shift a little more to play in front of more people and in front of a potentially standing audience. Especially since at this period, artists and their turners no longer project themselves in theaters but in festivals. Singer Apple, for example, is planning to do around 20 this summer.
