Are we ready for the elections? Not really… – Journal Haïti Progrès – Haitian # 1 Newspaper

Many envision this prospect, particularly bright, for a frog who has allowed himself to play bœuf. In a particularly tense context marked by acts of pain for Haitian families, Jovenel Moïse promised elections to the Core Group, despite the cases of murder and kidnapping in Haiti. Jovenel Moïse is devilishly off to staying in power and organizing elections, while his term will end on February 7, 2021.

“I have just finished a fruitful meeting with the Core Group. The discussions focused on the draft Constitution, the next elections, the security climate and the pursuit of inter-Haitian dialogue ”, declared President Jovenel Moïse, after his meeting with the Minister. Core Group.

In the meantime, several dozen young people, from different socio-political structures, protested on Monday, December 7, 2020, in front of the premises of the United States Embassy, with the aim of continuing to denounce the climate of insecurity that rages in Haiti. It was also an opportunity for these young people to say no to the organization of the next electoral competitions in Haiti, while the United States is putting pressure on the Executive, so that these polls are carried out the second week of the month. month of January 2021. Holding up placards on which are inscribed their demands, the protesters say they are outraged by the fact that the Executive prioritizes the holding of elections, at the expense of the living conditions of the Haitian population. Some of the participants stretched out on the ground to “denounce the complicity of the Star Republic in the death of several Haitian personalities”.

Moreover, while the Haitian Executive and a fringe of the international community, including the Core Group, heading for the elections, Haitian civil society organizations continue to say no. For them, under current conditions, elections are certainly not possible. Among these structures, there are mainly human rights organizations including POHDH (Platform of Haitian Organizations for Human Rights), CE-JILAP (National Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace), RNDDH (National Network for the Defense of Human Rights), PAJ (Program for an Alternative of Justice), SKL (Sant Karl Lévêque), CONHANE (Haitian Council of Non-State Actors) and SOFA (Solidarity Fanm Ayisiyen). “The realization of democratic elections requires that the actors and actresses have confidence in the electoral institution. However, the college of counselors set up by the Executive is illegitimate and illegal. Added to this is the fact that, arbitrarily, the Executive wants to pass a new Constitution before the elections. In doing so, the electoral process is fundamentally flawed. These alarming findings lead the signatory organizations to reaffirm that, under current conditions, elections are certainly not possible, ”they wrote, in a joint note, published on December 3, in which they clearly take a stand against the holding of elections. .

At the same time, on Friday 5 December, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) signed an agreement with the Ministry of Justice and the National Identification Office, with the aim of facilitating the transmission of data from the ONI to the CEP, to the constitution of the register and the various electoral lists, in accordance with the constitutional deadline. To this end, Rockefeller Vincent, the Minister of Justice, had a meeting with the Working Group: “Identity”, in order to facilitate the granting of the National Identification Card to all citizens, at the approach , he said, elections.
