Are visas falling because of the pandemic?

The Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Organization (BHRA) proposes to adopt a package of measures to centralize the process of applying for, approving and obtaining a single tourist visa for Bulgaria.

The purpose of these measures is to save time and effort for the average tourist, the organization said.

That is why the BHRA insists that visas for Russia, Moldova, Turkey and some Arab countries be abolished for tourism during the summer and winter seasons.

If the complete abolition of visas is not possible, to introduce a simplified procedure for their issuance, the Association proposes and adds that the documents should cost as cheaply as possible.

Providing the opportunity for visa applicants to submit documents online and receive an answer by e-mail whether they are approved or rejected for a visa, as well as those approved to have the opportunity to obtain a visa at the airport upon arrival, are among other BHRA proposals.

If the EU does not allow us to change the EU visa policy regarding travel for tourism, the government will insist on annual compensation of 1 billion euros for the Russian market and 1 billion euros for other markets with which Bulgaria has a visa regime, according to BHRA .

They also want the Association to take steps to restore the work of the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Novosibirsk and recall that currently there are three consulates in Russia that process visas from all over the country, which is extremely insufficient and complicates the work.

To send another tourist representative to Russia.

It is good to activate the work in all Russian cities and regions, which are twinned with the Bulgarian ones, BHRA emphasizes. It is also proposed to open tourist offices in our traditional markets – England, Germany, Central Europe, the Scandinavian countries.

Bulgaria’s visa policy is among the biggest obstacles to the development of tourism, according to the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association.

The topic was also touched upon in a series of talks held by the national professional organization with the political forces, candidates for the 45th National Assembly.
