My mother suffered from cancer; and we covered the costs of the surgery she had to undergo. After the medical examination, the doctors decided to prescribe the chemical treatment to prevent the cancer from metastasizing. Indeed, my mother attended six sessions; but she refused to complete the treatment, even to be hospitalized. And when it is insisted that she must follow the treatment, she cries, which negatively affects her morale. Informed that she is now free to continue the treatment or not, this news lifted her spirits. Currently, she leads a more or less happy life and goes to the mosque for prayers. Are his children committing a sin not to impose the treatment on him?
Answer
Your mother is an adult and responsible person, which gives her the right to take responsibility for her decisions; and therefore, it is unacceptable to impose anything even if it is a treatment advised by doctors; for the remedy and the cure do not lie only in the manner of the treatment; since man is composed of a body and a soul; therefore, it is inappropriate to behave with your mother as a repairing machine; but rather the other components must be taken into consideration. On their part, the doctors cannot undertake a surgical operation without having the agreement of the patient; how you force her to undergo something she doesn’t agree on! It is up to you to advise him and explain to him the unfortunate consequences of his refusal.
