Are avatars coming to WhatsApp?

According WABetaInfoWhatsApp is working on a fun feature for Android and iOS to use avatars instead of our faces when video calling with the app.

The feature is under development at the moment and there is no official release date. At the moment, we only know that it will come in a future update to make WhatsApp’s feature set even richer.

WhatsApp seems to have been working since last March on what appears to be a Memoji/Bitmoji alternative. The option to switch to using an avatar will appear on the video call screen.

At the moment this feature is still under development and not yet available even in beta. It may take a few months for further development and testing before you can comfortably use avatars for video calls. Moreover, WhatsApp will also allow you to send avatars as stickers in groups and chats.
