United States – An Arctic winter storm continues to ravage the United States, with temperatures remaining below freezing in much of the country, according to news agency Ansa.

The current storms in the United States have claimed 28 lives so far. This was reported by the US radio and television network NBC: the deaths occurred in Oklahoma, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Kansas, Nebraska, Ohio, New York, Colorado and Michigan.

In many parts of the United States, power companies have called for energy conservation: in cold weather, energy consumption has increased dramatically. There is a risk that the high demand can no longer be met. Short-term power outages were initiated in Tennessee to reduce consumption.

In upstate New York, near Buffalo, is the epicenter of the Arctic winter storm. There thousands of people had to be freed from their cars. Due to the persistent storm, a general driving ban applies. Despite this, many people got behind the wheel and got stuck on the roads. Governor Kathy Hochul has sent the National Guard to help those affected. Americans continue to be asked to stay at home.
