He has since been in a coma on a ventilator at the Royal London Hospital, where doctors deemed him brain dead and wanted to end the treatment that was keeping him alive.
The parents, Paul Battersbee and Hollie Dance, first went to court in Great Britain to prevent this, but did not succeed. They then asked the European Court of Human Rights to intervene, which the court on Wednesday declined to do.
According to a statement from the family, the breathing machine was turned off at 1 pm Norwegian time.
