Archeology Day in the Var, Saturday March 11 » PACA’s economic and political newsletter

The Departmental Week of the History and Archeology of the Var is renewed and is held throughout the Var territory, from Monday March 6 to Saturday March 11, 2023.

For this 2nd edition, the desire of the Department of Var remains the same: to highlight and make accessible culture in the Var, everywhere, for everyone, and more particularly history and archeology.

Every day, during this dedicated week, a historical conference and an archaeological conference are proposed and given by distinguished speakers.

The exhibition Le Var en BD, une histoire, will be inaugurated on Monday. It will last until November 3 at the Departmental Archives of Draguignan.

Five colleges welcome archaeologists from the Departmental Archeology Service of the Department of Var, for conferences lasting one hour. In total, 23 classes, from sixth to third, i.e. nearly 700 Var schoolchildren, will benefit from these enriching encounters.

A study day on the principle of absolute monarchy and the practices of absolutism in France, 16th-18th centuries takes place at the Abbey of La Celle.

Finally, this week ends on Saturday March 11 with the day of archeology in the Var, where 13 speakers take stock of the latest excavation campaigns carried out on the territory.

Witness to the past and the evolution of human activities, the archaeological heritage is a non-renewable cultural asset that must be preserved and enhanced.
