Archaeological cooperation between Inrap and the archeology department of Chartres Métropole

Inrap (National Institute for Archaeological Research) sent its president, Dominique Garcia and director, Daniel Guérin to the Hotel Montescot on Wednesday April 6. The Institute wanted to make an impression on the occasion of the signing of an agreement between it and Chartres Métropole.

It should serve “to frame scientific and cultural collaborations between Inrap and the archeology department of the Agglo” which has existed since 2003.

“We have been collaborating with Inrap for five or six years, but the contributions are increasing and we need to secure relations,” according to Mathias Dupuis, the director of archeology.

For several years, Inrap has been involved in the Chartres conurbation during diagnostics planned before real estate or road developments. The Institute and the archeology department of Chartres Métropole share their data to make them accessible to the public and the scientific community. The latest collaboration takes place within the framework of the exhibition Mammoths! Giants in the Eure valley visible until June 5th. A conference will be organized on April 14 at the Museum of Fine Arts at 6 p.m. with a specialist who has discovered a mammoth in Seine-et-Marne.

“We will be present in support and in addition to the services of the Agglo which are among the three best in France. This agreement makes it possible to create a link, to confirm our cooperation, to consolidate and secure links and to facilitate exchanges between the two institutions,” said Dominique Garcia.
Before formally signing the agreement with Jean-Pierre Gorges, president of Chartres Métropole, the representatives of Inrap visited the premises of the archeology department.

“Archeology is a subject that has followed me since my debut in politics. I was critical with Inrap because of the costs sometimes generated by the excavations, but the most important thing is to promote the archaeological discoveries”, underlined Jean-Pierre Gorges.
