Arce refuses to attend the march called by Evo Morales

Madrid. The president of Bolivia, Luis Arce, refused to attend Evo Morales’ invitation to meet at the March to Save Bolivia called by the former president, but offered to hold a meeting in another location.

The Minister of the Government of Bolivia, Eduardo del Castillo, pointed to security reasons for Arce’s absence in what he described as a “death march.”

“We are not looking for confrontation, but for dialogue. And that is why if Mr. Evo Morales wants to resolve his alleged demands, he should choose where he wants to meet. If he wants, we can go to Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Tarija or Sucre, where he like it,” he said in statements reported by the ABI news agency.

Last Tuesday, Morales and his followers began a March to Save Bolivia from Caracollo with the aim of reaching La Paz this Sunday. Sectors near Arce are preparing to stop this march in the city of El Alto, next to La Paz.

“We are concerned about the threats against the physical integrity and freedom of former President Evo Morales, who has been the subject of statements that we consider extremely alarming by senior government officials,” the Morales sector denounced in a letter sent to the UN.

Morales himself warned that “if there are injuries or deaths, it is the entire responsibility of Luis Arce and David Choquehuanca.”
