Arcade by Duncan Laurence: Reaches One Billion Streams on Spotify, Making History as the First Eurovision Song to Hit this Milestone

The number Arcade by Duncan Laurence has been listened to a billion times on Spotify since Tuesday. The winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019 is the third Dutch artist ever to reach this milestone with a single song.

Dutch DJs Martin Garrix and Tiësto preceded Laurence. Garrix even did it twice, with In the Name of Love (more than 1.3 billion streams) and Scared to Be Lonely (more than 1.1 billion). Tiësto achieved the milestone with the song The Business (almost 1.07 billion).

Arcade is the first Eurovision song to reach one billion streams on Spotify. Laurence won the European Song Contest four years ago in Tel Aviv. He was then the first Dutch winner since Teach-In. That group won in 1975 with the song Ding-a-dong.

In 2021 got Arcade renewed attention. Then the song was put under many videos on the popular app TikTok. As a result, the song also became a hit in North and South America and Asia.

Spotify’s so-called ‘Billions Club’ counts with Arcade plus 460 songs. Blinding Lights by The Weeknd is the most listened to with more than 3.7 streams. Shape of You from Ed Sheeran (3.57 billion) and Someone You Love from Lewis Capaldi (2.9 billion) round out the top three.
