Norwegian Labor Party in Turmoil After Controversial Nomination

Former Norwegian Minister Anette Trettebergstuen expressed deep disappointment over the recent Labor Party nomination process. In a candid Facebook post, Trettebergstuen lamented the shocking decision to exclude experienced politiciansofo like Ingvild Kjerkol, Marte Mjøs Persen, and Hadia Tajik from the party’s candidate lists for the upcoming election.

"It pains me to write this," she began, clearly shaken. "This has been a day of reckoning, a shock, but a confirmation of what I had feared.

Trettebergstuen highlighted the incredible work ethic and dedication of these women, emphasizing their significant contributions to the party. "These are three of the hardest-working, most articulate, most strategic women I have ever collaborated with. "And suddenly, the party seemingly has no place for them," she lamented.

The former Minister, who herself chose not to seek re-election, lamented the recent trend within the party. “Not long ago," she noted, "it was unheard of for the Labor Party to cast aside party leaders, seasoned Members of Parliament and recently appointed ministers who wished to run again."

Adding fuel to the fire, the controversial nomination also propelled Trond Giske, a politician embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal, back into the political spotlight.

"The fact that Giske is making a comeback alongside the exclusion of these strong women makes this situation even more difficult to comprehend,” Trettebergstuen wrote.

She concluded her post with a stark warning:

"The Labor Party is in a deep crisis. This is something the leadership should acknowledge, and soon."

Giske’s Return Sparks Outrage

The Labor Party’s decision to nominate Giske has drawn harsh criticism. One prominent voice of opposition is Line Oma, a woman who in 2018 bravely came forward as a victim of Giske’s harassment. Oma took to Facebook to announce her resignation from the party, expressing profound disappointment and heartbreak.

“For me,” Oma wrote, “it is incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to be a member of a party that grants trust to a harasser, regardless of the procedures used in the process.”

Oma’s decision reflects the growing discontent within the party, with several members opting for a ‘black profile picture’ on Facebook as a symbol of mourning for what they perceive as the party’s loss of values.

This動盪 within the Norwegian Labor Party will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the upcoming election and raises critical questions about the party’s direction and its commitment to equality and accountability.
