Aragua | El Palmar sugar plant paralyzed due to lack of fuel

Aragua.- Fuel shortage continues to wreak havoc in Aragua state. On this occasion, the El Palmar Sugar Mill, located in the Bolívar municipality, stopping the milling in the harvest nuclei and making it impossible to transport the ripe cane. The president of the Cañicultores Society of Aragua state, Carlos Celli, indicated this March 16 that a year’s work is at risk.

Celli also reported that there are currently four private sugar plants in operation in the country or those that work with fuel oil boilers. «160,000 tons have been harvested, there is still 80,000 to be harvested, when winter comes it will be impossible to get it out of the field, “he says.

To complete the harvest, the sugar factory needs a daily profit of 135,000 liters of fuel; insists that the failure in the supply of gasoline and diesel is necessary to keep the country’s productive sector in operation.

After harvesting, the cane requires a process of maintenance, fertilization among others, to prepare for the next season.
