Aragón Urges Ministry of Agriculture to Make Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease Vaccine Mandatory: 40% of Teruel Beef Farms Affected

Aragón claims the Ministry of Agriculture declare the epizootic hemorrhagic disease vaccine mandatory. This disease, better known as hemorrhagic fever, affected the 40% of Teruel beef farms and 80 deer from the Universal Mountains of Teruel died.

At a general level, hemorrhagic fever spread to 10% of the animals on livestock farms in Aragon with, for example, 22 farms in Boltaña or 42 in Cantavieja in which more than 40 animals died. Now this disease has a lower incidence due to the arrival of winter, but it is expected a rebound in spring and that is why Aragónb asks that the vaccine be mandatory. Thus, affirms the advisor of agriculture Ángel Samper, the laboratories will accelerate their development.

“The only way for the laboratories to launch the vaccine is for it to be declared mandatory. If it is not declared mandatory, the laboratories (who look for their economic benefits) They are not going to start developing this vaccine nor are they going to investigate. They will not implement it and in spring we will find ourselves again with the problem of hemorrhagic fever without having implemented any solution,” stated the Aragonese agricultural minister.

Samper claims that all animal health matters are regulated and managed by the Ministry so as not to create inequalities between communities: “From Aragon there have already been two occasions in which we ask the Ministry to remove the issue of animal health from the public debate. The minister’s decision that each autonomous community do what it deems appropriate is not remove this issue from public debate but rather it is a way of confronting some communities with others. Depending on the economic resources of each community, a series of aid or others may be extended in response to an aspect that is specific to the Ministry.”

These issues, along with others such as the flexibility of the CAP, a special plan for sheep or the modernization of irrigation, have been transferred by the VOX agriculture departments of the different communities, including Aragón, to the minister of the area, Luis Planas. .
