Arag Group Acquires Ergo’s DAS Legal Protection Business in Great Britain

Ergo has divested its DAS legal protection business in Great Britain. The buyer is the Arag Group. Both contracting parties agreed on confidentiality regarding the purchase price.

Ergo Versicherung has separated from its legal expenses insurance subsidiary DAS UK. The buyer is the Arag Group. Arag announced that both sides had reached an agreement on the acquisition of DAS UK, Ergo’s British legal protection insurer.

The Arag Group has been active in Great Britain since 2006 with Arag plc. In FY2022, Arag plc managed £61m in premiums as Managing General Agent. DAS UK was founded over 40 years ago and consists of the legal protection insurer DAS Legal Expenses Insurance Company Limited, the law firm DAS Law Limited and the service company DAS Services Limited. In 2022, DAS Legal Expenses Insurance Company Limited had premium income of £129m.

The British authorities have not yet given their consent

The acquisition of DAS UK is still subject to the approval of the responsible supervisory authorities. Until approval is granted, ARAG plc and DAS UK will independently continue their business unchanged.

In 2019, the Arag Group took over the business of the DAS UK branch active in the Republic of Ireland and in 2021 the entire DAS unit of the Ergo Group in Canada.
