The Arabian Gulf University concluded the campaign organized by the Department of Psychiatry at the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences to raise awareness of psychological problems and psychological stresses in conjunction with the international celebration of World Mental Health Day, amid a remarkable turnout from students and members of the university’s administrative and academic bodies.
The campaign included specialized scientific lectures that dealt with mental health from its various aspects and dimensions, where the Head of the Physiology Department at the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Dr. Yahya Najib Al-Salam, gave a lecture on the physiological foundations that contribute to the emergence of psychological disorders, while the Head of the Psychiatry Department, Dr. Mariwan Hosni, gave a lecture. On how to predict the appearance of symptoms of psychological disorders in people before they appear clearly and how to deal with them in the family and social circles, while the head of the Department of Internal Medicine, Dr. Muhammad Al-Sanbisi, gave a lecture on the close relationship between the appearance of organic symptoms in the body and psychological problems, explaining the optimal methods for dealing with them for success. For his part, the Head of the Department of Psychiatry, College of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Professor Dr. Mariwan Hosni, said that the campaign, which was organized in cooperation with the Deanship of Student Affairs and the students of the College of Medicine, who excelled in organizing and giving at the counseling campaign stations, succeeded in achieving the desired goals by introducing common psychological problems and explaining them. It explains the symptoms of these psychological problems and explains what happens during psychological imbalances, along with explaining how to prevent, diagnose and treat them, pointing out that the guidance campaign emphasized the close connection between mental health, physical health and following a healthy lifestyle in various daily behavioral aspects.
The medical students participating in organizing the campaign reviewed the reality of the increasing problems and psychological disorders in the world as a result of changing the lifestyle in all societies, including our society in the Arab Gulf countries. They will also explain the repercussions of years of isolation and infections with the Corona disease and its consequences on the individual, families, and performance at work and various jobs. In the context of the campaign, they partnered with visitors to the pilot stations by organizing interactive activities during which visitors suggested and explored solutions in order to obtain souvenirs.
It is noteworthy that the World Health Organization allocated this year the slogan “Mental health is a universal human right” in order to improve knowledge, raise awareness and advance measures that promote and protect mental health for all as a universal human right, on the basis that mental health is a fundamental right. It is a human right and everyone has the right to enjoy the highest level of mental health.
