Arab War Warning, US Gives New Signal as Iran-Hezbollah Bombs Israel

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – United States (US) officials believe that Iran and Hezbollah will retaliate against Israel. Before that, Washington boasted that both of them were preparing to launch a major attack, possibly including rockets, missiles or drones, on Sunday night or Monday.

“Iran’s retaliation against the killing of a senior Hamas official (Ismail Haniyeh) by Israel in Teheran took longer than the US initially expected,” sources and officials said citing US intelligence with knowledge of about this, reported from Al-Arabiya, Wednesday (7. /8/2024).

“Hezbollah has not yet responded to the death of… Fuad Shukr, Hezbollah’s top military commander,” he said.

The withdrawal of attacks is believed to be related to Iran’s efforts to await the results of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, today. Iran had requested the meeting, especially because of the assassination of Haniyeh.

“The OIC said that the meeting would be held in response to the ongoing atrocities committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip,” the page said.

At the same time, Iran has now strengthened its air defenses with more radar systems, missiles and drones. One of them is equipped from Russia.

This was published in the New York Times on Monday, citing a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other officials who were said to have confirmed this.

“Not only has the request been made, but shipping has begun,” the page said.

At the same time, Hezbollah itself has said that it is waiting for the right time to respond to the assassination of its army chief by Israel. The group said they would work alone or with their regional friends.

This was given by Hezbollah Leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. He promised that his party would give a “strong and effective” response, regardless of the outcome, although he did not specify the type of response or when.

“Regardless of the consequences, the resistance to this attack from Israel will not go unpunished,” he said in a televised speech.

He said that all international efforts to persuade Hezbollah not to retaliate against Israel were in vain.

“Our response, God willing, will be strong, effective and victorious,” he said in a speech that greeted Hezbollah members and supporters gathered in the suburbs of Beirut.
