Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The bomb attack in Jeddah Saudi Arabia Wednesday (11/11/2020) made Saudi Arabia furious.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) has threatened terrorists with retaliation, a “punishment” that is severe and painful.
Reporting from AFPMBS said that Riyadh promised to guarantee stability in the country from the repeated attacks by extremists.
“We will continue to confront any extremist behavior and ideas,” he was quoted as saying Friday (11/13/2020).
“We will continue to attack with an iron fist all those who wish to undermine our security and stability,” he added, according to a transcript of the speech published by the Saudi Press Office.
Earlier, a bomb blast hit a World War I memorial at a non-Muslim cemetery in Jeddah just two weeks after a guard at the French consulate in the Red Sea city was injured by a Saudi national who wielded a knife.
This explosion injured a Greek diplomat, a British national, and a Saudi official. Some media outlets have linked this to a string of outrages over the satirical cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in France.
A statement from the ISIS propaganda wing, Amaq, said the attack was aimed at the French consul. However, in their claim there was no clear evidence of involvement.
France has condemned this attack in Jeddah. Through the Foreign Ministry’s Official Twitter Account, they said that France together with the embassy present at the commemoration strongly condemns this very unjustified act “.
French President Emmanuel Macron has staunchly defended the right to publish cartoons, but he has also tried to assuage Muslim anger over his remarks. But Macron’s stance has sparked protests in several countries where portraits of French presidents have been burned, and campaigns to boycott French products.
Meanwhile, in the same hours after the incident, Saudi Arabia said it had blocked two drones from the Houthi rebels in Yemen. This group also frequently throws missile attacks on a number of areas in the country.
Saudi Arabia is transforming itself as an “open and moderate Islam”. One example is the licensing of concerts, cinemas and other forms of entertainment.
This change has also met several times with opposition from ultra-conservative religious groups. “Extremism is no longer tolerated in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” Prince MBS said in his speech.
